The Business Council for Africa is very pleased to be welcoming UK Ambassadors and High Commissioners from across the continent, following the postponement of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office’s leadership week with the announcement of the UK election in June. We will be joined by the UK’s most senior diplomats based in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Liberia, Mauritius, Angola, Cameroon, and the Republic of Guinea.
Nigel Casey CMG MVO – High Commissioner to South Africa

Nigel was appointed High Commissioner to South Africa in April 2017. Previously he has served as the Prime Minister’s Private Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Ambassador in Sarajevo. He has also held diplomatic postings in India and Russia.
David Belgrove – Ambassador to Liberia

David has been Ambassador to Liberia since 2015. He joined the FCO in 1982 and has served in the Czech Republic, Kuwait, India, Canada, Afghanistan and Liberia. Most recently he has been Deputy Head of Mission and Consul General at the British Embassy in Khartoum. He was awarded an OBE in 2010 for his work in Afghanistan.
Jonathan Drew – High Commissioner to Mauritius

Jonathan joined the FCO in 1993, he has served in a number of overseas positions, including as Deputy British Representative to East Timor, Deputy High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea and Head of the Political Military Team at the British Embassy in Kabul. In London he has been Deputy Head of the Counter Terrorism Assistance Team, Head of the West Africa Section and most recently Deputy Head of Africa Department, where he worked on a broad range of commercial, security and conflict issues.
John Dennis – Ambassador to Angola

John became Ambassador to Angola in 2014. He joined the FCO in 1981. Since then he has worked on African, Asian and commercial affairs, with a range of overseas postings. He has spent the last four years leading the department which deals with southern and central Africa.
Catriona Laing, Ambassador to the Republic of Zimbabwe

In September 2014 Ms Laing was appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Zimbabwe. Ms Laing joined the FCO in January 2012 when she was posted to Afghanistan. She is an economist by background and has spent much of her career in Africa serving in Botswana, Kenya, Sudan and Somalia.
Catherine Inglehearn – Ambassador to the Republic of Guinea

Catherine became Ambassador to the Republic of Guinea in 2015. Catherine joined the FCO in 1990 and until recently was Deputy Head of East-West Africa Department. Her FCO career has included a wide range of roles covering Africa, Eastern Europe and energy related issues, with postings to Kazakhstan, Slovenia and Italy.
